On April 8, 2025, I had the honor of interviewing Master Gunnery Sergeant Juan Jose Valdez about his remarkable experiences during the Fall of Saigon. Mr. Valdez warmly welcomed me into his shared room with Shirley at Summerfield. Our conversation lasted over a half hour, during which he shared memories from his early life, detailed accounts of his critical role in the evacuation of Saigon, personal reflections on courage and duty, and insights into the emotional and historical impacts of war.
